Indian people should be worried for their happiness

Why India's Happiness Index is Going Down Day by Day

India has been ranked 136th out of 146 countries in the World Happiness Report 2022. This is a significant decline from its ranking of 122nd in 2021. There are a number of reasons why India's happiness index is going down day by day.

Economic inequality is one of the main reasons for India's declining happiness index. The gap between the rich and the poor is widening, and this is leading to a sense of dissatisfaction and frustration among the general population. The richest 1% of Indians hold more than 70% of the country's wealth, while the poorest 50% of Indians hold less than 10% of the country's wealth. This inequality is causing a lot of social unrest and is leading to a decline in happiness.

Corruption is another major factor that is contributing to India's declining happiness index. Corruption is rampant in all levels of government and society, and it is making it difficult for people to get ahead. People are frustrated with the fact that they have to pay bribes to get things done, and they are losing faith in the government.

Lack of opportunities is also a major reason why Indians are not happy. There are not enough jobs for the growing population, and the cost of living is rising. This is making it difficult for people to make ends meet, and it is leading to a sense of hopelessness.

Insecurity is another factor that is contributing to India's declining happiness index. The country is facing a number of security challenges, including terrorism, crime, and violence. This is making people feel unsafe, and it is taking a toll on their mental and emotional well-being.

The government needs to take steps to address these issues if it wants to improve the happiness index of India. The government needs to reduce economic inequality, fight corruption, create more jobs, and improve security. If the government can address these issues, it will go a long way towards making India a happier country.

In addition to the factors mentioned above, there are a number of other factors that could be contributing to India's declining happiness index. These factors include:

  • Environmental degradation. India is facing a number of environmental challenges, including air pollution, water pollution, and deforestation. These challenges are harming the environment and making it difficult for people to live healthy lives.
  • Gender inequality. India is a patriarchal society, and women face discrimination in many areas of life. This discrimination is leading to a sense of injustice and frustration among women, and it is contributing to their unhappiness.
  • Mental health issues. India has a high rate of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, and suicide. These issues are often caused by the factors mentioned above, and they are contributing to the country's declining happiness index.

The government and the people of India need to work together to address these issues if they want to improve the happiness index of the country. By working together, they can create a more just, equitable, and sustainable society where everyone can live happy and fulfilling lives.
